I Do It For The Kids, Yo

Posted by sara on October 28th, 2008. Filed under: Everything Else.

I’ve gotten a couple questions thrown at me recently and figured this would be the place to answer them. OK, really it’s just ONE question, but “a couple” just sounds a wee bit more important, no? Anyway, the question is this–”Sara, why do you keep up with this blog?”

Here’s a really short answer–for Avery and Zoe. There is so much of Avery’s life pre-blog that I’ve completely forgotten. Zoe will do something, and it’ll remind me of something Avery did when she was little that I had lost in my brain somehow. So I document all their little stories to help ME remember. And one day I hope they’ll sift through the eight zillion pictures and posts and say, “Wow. Our Mom totally rocks. She took time out of her very busy schedule turning us into respectable human beings to blog about our potty habits! This is such USEFUL information now that I’m grown!”

Avery, Zoe–it’s all for you. It’s always all for you.

BUT. I should also say–it’s also for me. Writing about our days gives me some direction, some sense of accomplishment. When you’re a woman who was brought up expecting to have a career AND kids and you wind up with just kids(by choice, yes. but still), it can lead to some feelings of regret. Or inadequacy. Or something. It’s weird…but in a lot of ways–feminism done me wrong. Here I am doing exactly what I want to be doing, what I NEED to be doing, yet I still feel guilty that my college degree and teaching certificate are just gathering dust. Tangent, much? In any case–this blog makes me happy. It makes me happy that people read it. It makes my “job” feel more like a job, and that’s a good thing.

This thing is also for our family. HI GUYS! Those family members we can’t see on a regular basis–this is their place to keep up with us. I KNOW you’re out there, even if you don’t comment. Don’t fear the comment box, it’s your friend.

OK, this was intended to be a very brief post and look what happened. So to recap–it’s for the girls. Mostly. 85%, let’s say. Yep. That works.

**Edited to Add–

It’s also for all my friends–those that I know in “Real Life” and solely through the Tubes.  You know who you are.  And for those that I haven’t met yet–some day I’ll win that old Lotto and make a massive road trip to meet each and every one of you.  Swear.

Don’t worry Honey. You will blow the dust off your degree and start teaching again. When the girls start school, or go off to college. The job you have now is a very important job, and you are excellent at it. It makes me and your Dad very proud of you.

I think you have “BEST” job in the biz! Sure it doesn’t pay (well monetarily anyways), but it will pay when Avery and Zoe say thank you! It will melt your heart :)

I also love reading the blog. I’m sure it really cuts back on the “how’s the family?” emails you would get if you didn’t have the blog.
