Avery Plays Soccer
Posted by sara on September 26th, 2009. Filed under: Avery, Sports. After a rain-out last weekend, Avery finally got to start Soccer today. Earlier this year I asked her what she wanted to do–Soccer or Ballet? The answer was a very LOUD “Soccer!” So here we are. Y’all. It was awesome.
Here she is, raring to go. Please note that the window is still dark. That’s because the sun was barely up. Her games are REALLY early. We love our daughter very much. You can tell because we’re willing to commit to be on a soccer field every Saturday morning at 8:30am. That’s love, man.
The parents got involved during drills. I think that Mike was secretly stoked he was able to get out on the field with his girl. And Avery was equally stoked.
See her tongue hanging out? Let’s look closer.
That right there is a family trait. Reese and Aaron both have a tendency to stick their tongues out on the playing field. It helps them stay focused. Or on balance? Or something, I don’t know–but I do know it’s pretty much necessary.
She did really well–showing off her ball control skills. She DID have a tendency to want to just keep dribbling once she got going. So there was alot of “Avery stay on the field! No, THIS field!” She’ll get there though.
Zoe really had a great time. Doesn’t she look excited? Don’t worry–I let her out of her stroller prison shortly after this photo and I think she wound up dirtier than her sister before it was all said and done.
Today was primarily a practice, but the girls were able to have a short game with another team that was practicing on the same field. By this point, Avery had been practicing for a full hour and she was fading fast. But she managed to stay out there and chase that ball around.
I know she’s going to do great next weekend at her first official game. As I was getting her in the bath tonight, she said, “Mommy, can we do soccer again tomorrow? Puuuuh-lease?”
I think she’s right where she needs to be, dirty and covered in grass. She LOVED it.

Where ever did you find soccer for 3 year olds? I looked a lot of different places, but nothing started until 4 years old. Westin really wanted to play soccer this fall, but I thought I was out of luck. Is it too late to sign up? Let me know….shortyjo1@hotmail.com
