Zoe Is 18 Months Old

Well, OK, she OFFICIALLY turned 18 months on August 24.  But she IS the second child, and sometimes things get … delayed.  In any case, here’s a recap of what Zoe is doing now that she is a year and a half.  Sheesh.  Really?

She went to the doctor for her check up and she is a very healthy, very normal 26 lbs. 9 oz.  She’s also 32.5 inches tall.  She is back on a porper growth curve and squarely in the 70-80th percentile.  I think I’m going to have to stop calling her “petite”.  I knew that she had gotten much bigger because we stopped getting the “She’s HOW old?  WOW.  She looks so SMALL!” comments everywhere we went.

Such a lady, this one.

The doctor asked the customary question, “So she’s saying at least ten words, right?”  I chuckled a little and told her that she was using at least 75 regularly and learning new ones daily.  I think he was pretty pleased.  All in all–she’s as healthy as can be.

On the subject of talking.  She talks.  Alot.  I thought that maybe, just maybe, she would be the quiet one.  No.  It looks as though I will have two little chatterboxes on my hands.  At least they’ll be able to talk to each other very, very soon.  Zoe is picking up new words every day.  She is quite the parrot.  Big words are no biggie–she tried to say refrigerator yesterday and came very, very close.  She can say “Please” perfectly.  Not “Pease”.  Not “Puh-weese”.  Please.  We’re still working on Thank You.  Just today she started saying Avery’s name alot.

“A-vee”

And sometimes, “Sis-urr”

Yes, it is JUST.  THAT.  SWEET.  It would be awesome if I had a super sweet photo of the two of them here, but seeing as how they never sit still together long enough, that will have to wait.  I’m working on it.

She will string words together in very basic sentences.  “Read dis book” is still her favorite.  After lunch, she’ll say “Clean Zoe” because she knows she’s not getting down until she’s clean.  She will also say “Pet <insert animal’s name here>”.  She loves the animals.  Did you know she also loves her Daddy?  She does.  During the day, she’ll walk over to the front door and say “Daddy Work!”  Because, you know, Daddy is at work after all.

She also does this really girly thing with nouns.  She adds an “ie” sound at the end of every word she can.  Duckie.  Horsie.  Doggie.  Cribbie.  Sheepie.  Piggie.  Fishie.  The list goes on.  She is SUCH a girl.

Zoe is running.  And trying to do everything she sees us doing.  If I bend over to pick something up, I can know with certainty that she is looking on, head on the floor.  If she sees me dip my bread on my plate, she is dipping her bread on her plate.  Speaking of food–she is using a fork and spoon, but often finds it more efficient to use her fingers.

Zoe is still in the midst of a very intense love affair with her left thumb.  If she’s sleepy, bored, unsure of herself, upset, etc. that left thumb goes into her mouth while her right hand grabs the front of her shirt.  It is also impossible for her to listen to a book being read without her thumb.  Impossible, I say.

Zoe is also a diva.  She has an attitude about a mile long.  This is new terrain for us since Avery was always so easygoing.  Zoe will not think twice about throwing a major fit if you take her away from something she wants to do.  Example:  Her favorite place to poo is while sitting at her little table coloring.  Thanks for the table, Nana!  Zoe’s breaking it in REAL good!  I’ll go and tell her that we need to change her diaper.  She will start screaming, “CUWWER!  CUWWER!” and flinging various body parts around.  Luckily these fits are usually short as she is still easily distracted.  Look Zoe!  It’s your ducky!  But they do make for cute pictures.

Isn’t this just the saddest wittle face you’ve ever seen?  She was waiting (impatiently) for dessert.

Books are still her favorite plaything, but she has decided that blocks are OK too.  She can build a pretty impressive tower and loves to smash it down and say “UH OH!”  Her other favorite toys include anything her sister is playing with at any given moment.  Avery is learning ALOT about sharing.  She’s a good sport.

You may have heard that she is using the potty.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is still hit or miss.  Aside from her first poo victory, she has decided that she’d much rather poo in her diapers for now, thankyouverymuch.  But she has gotten pretty consistent about going peepee in the pottay before bath every night.  So we’re still getting good practice in.  I’m thinking that once we get through the holidays, we might REALLY give it a go.

Zoe is still smack-full of sweetness.  Most of that she reserves for Mike.  But it’s OK.  I’ve still got Avery, right?  It is not uncommon for her to snuggle into his chest as we read her a story every night before bed.  Not uncommon for her to stop what she’s doing, run over to him, and kiss him.  Not uncommon for her to squirm out of my arms and into his when she’s upset.  I don’t let it bother me.  Much.  She IS his clone after all.  Who am I to judge?  Look at this face–no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot hold it against her.  She is my little love, my light, my Zoe-Zo.  Even if she won’t give up her kisses.
