Birthday Success!
Posted by sara on October 16th, 2006. Filed under: Avery, Birthdays, Holidays.So I successfully made it through Avery’s first birthday party, and all in all, it was a most excellent time. See post above for pics! I made the cake myself. I think I stressed the most over that, but it turned out really nice. The butterflies and flowers were made with fondant, the rest is regular icing. I was able to make the butterflies and flowers in advance, which was very helpful since I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off on the big day. I fully intend to make her birthday cake every year until the day I die. If I had a bigger kitchen, I would very seriously consider turning birthday cakes into a little business venture, but alas…my kitchen is about the size of a very small closet, so that will have to wait.
We had a good turn-out, about 20 or so people. Made my house look super-tiny, but we had fun. Avery dove into her little cake as if there was no tomorrow. I expected nothing less from my little piggy-poo. She didn’t know what to make of all her toys–and was really confused by the much-anticipated Tickle Me Elmo. But she’s getting used to it now and I swear I saw her smile at the little red monster today.
The whole party reminded me a lot of my wedding day–TONS of planning and then it goes by in a whirlwind. All the planning was totally worth it…but I’m very glad it’s over!
