Insulin Isn’t Scary

So Gumbo is home, and she’s been getting her shots twice daily, and it’s going just fine. Mike’s been handling it for the most part, but I gave my first shot tonight and it wasn’t as bad as I imagined. It helps that Gumbo is about the most laid back cat on the planet and she barely flinches when she’s injected.
However, the other cats are quietly planning a revolt–I can feel it. You see, we used to just give the cats one big bowl of food each day. Now that Gumbo needs insulin twice a day, and she can only have it after eating, the cats are rationed out two meals daily. And it’s diet food. Poor kitties. But Mike and Sara don’t want another diabetic cat, and our other three “rotund” cats are well on their way. So EVERYBODY gets a diet! This results in lots of excess meowing and frequent dirty looks. Oh well, it’s for their own good and one day they will thank me. Or pee on me in my sleep. Either one.

    Sara,
I’m so glad Gumbo is doing well, and that you are practicing “tough love” with the other cats. I’m sure it will help them all have longer, healthier lives.
    Lots of love, Karen
